Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and CauseMissions (“CauseMissions,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) governing your use of our website and the mission widgets we make available for nonprofits to embed on their own sites (together, the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What CauseMissions is

CauseMissions lets you support a cause (a nonprofit) at no cost to you by completing a “mission” — a performance-marketing offer supplied by a third-party partner network. When a mission is completed and confirmed by the partner network, the resulting payout is directed as a donation to the cause you selected. There are no user accounts; providing an email or name is optional and is used to credit and look up your donations.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. Individual missions may impose additional eligibility requirements (such as location, age, or account status) set by the partner network or advertiser, and you are responsible for meeting them.

3. How donations work

• A click is not a donation. Starting or clicking a mission is intent only. A donation exists only when the partner network reports a confirmed conversion for that mission.
• Confirmation and settlement. Completed missions must be validated and settled by the partner network before funds can be paid out. This clearing runs on a rolling monthly cycle, so a completed mission typically takes a few weeks — sometimes longer — to become funds a cause actually receives. Conversions may be reversed, rejected, or held by a partner network, in which case the associated donation does not occur.
• Payout threshold. We pay out to a cause once it has at least $5.00 in confirmed donations ready to send; amounts below that roll over to a future payout.
• No guarantee. We do not guarantee that any mission will convert, that any particular amount will be donated, or the timing of any payout.
• Not a tax-deductible gift by you. You do not pay us and you are not the donor of record. Donations are funded by partner payouts and directed by CauseMissions; you are not entitled to a charitable tax deduction for missions you complete, and we do not issue tax receipts to you.

4. Third-party missions and offers

Missions are provided by third-party partner networks and the advertisers behind them. When you start a mission you leave the Service and interact directly with those third parties, whose own terms and privacy policies apply. Some offers may require you to register for a product, make a purchase, start a paid subscription, or take other actions that cost you money. Any such cost is your responsibility. We are not a party to your transaction with an advertiser and are not responsible for their products, services, offers, representations, or conduct, or for any charges you incur. Disputes about an offer’s terms, whether it converted, or whether it was fulfilled are between you and the relevant partner network or advertiser.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• submit false, fraudulent, incentivized-in-violation, or manipulated mission completions, or otherwise attempt to generate donations that are not genuine;
• use bots, scripts, automation, multiple identities, VPN/proxy manipulation, or other techniques to farm, inflate, or game conversions;
• interfere with, disrupt, overload, probe, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure;
• scrape, harvest, or copy the Service or its data except as expressly permitted, or reverse engineer any part of it;
• misrepresent your identity or your affiliation with any person or organization; or
• use the Service in violation of any applicable law or any partner network’s terms.

We may withhold or reverse donations, and suspend or block access, for conduct we reasonably believe violates these Terms or the terms of a partner network, or that appears fraudulent or abusive.

6. Causes and nonprofits

Nonprofits shown on the Service are listed automatically from public IRS data provided by a third-party data source. Listing a nonprofit does not mean it endorses, sponsors, or is affiliated with CauseMissions. We do not guarantee that a listed nonprofit will receive funds, including where a payout cannot be completed. A nonprofit may opt out of appearing on the Service at any time by submitting a removal request from an email it controls.

7. Embedding missions (for nonprofits)

If you embed our mission widget on your website, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the embed script and related endpoints solely to display missions as intended. You must not modify, wrap, or use the embed to misrepresent the Service, to imply an endorsement that does not exist, or in any way that violates these Terms or applicable law. You are responsible for your website and its compliance with law, including disclosures to your own visitors. We may change, rate-limit, or discontinue the embed, or revoke your license, at any time.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, text, and branding, is owned by CauseMissions or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited embed license above, we grant you no rights in the Service. Nonprofit names and public data are the property of their respective owners and sources.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, THAT MISSIONS WILL CONVERT, OR THAT ANY DONATION OR PAYOUT WILL OCCUR OR REACH A GIVEN CAUSE. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTS, OMISSIONS, OFFERS, OR CONTENT OF PARTNER NETWORKS, ADVERTISERS, OR NONPROFITS.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CAUSEMISSIONS AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR DONATIONS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THESE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CauseMissions from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right, including any partner network or advertiser terms.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the exclusive venue for any dispute not subject to another agreed process will be the state or federal courts located in New York, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Before filing any claim, you agree to first contact us at [email protected] and attempt to resolve the dispute informally in good faith.

13. Changes and termination

We may modify these Terms from time to time; the “Last updated” date reflects the latest version, and your continued use after changes means you accept them. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service, and may suspend or terminate your access, at any time and for any reason. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including donations already subject to reversal, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law) will survive.
